Tucked far into the north-western reaches of Namibia, the Marienfluss region is a remote wilderness area where the rough roads and lack of facilities keep travelers at bay.
The Skeleton Coast Park borders the area in the west and the Kunene River, known to be rife with crocodiles, bisects the area in the north, creating a natural boundary with Angola. The Marienfluss valley extends between two sets of mountains. Long grass blows in the wind, lone green trees adorn the vast landscape and springbok roam through the spectacular vistas. The landscape is dotted with the mysterious fairy circles, round patches in a sea of grass entirely devoid of vegetation.
Until today research has reached no definite explanation as to their origin. This isolated area of the Kunene region is home to the Himba people, one of the last semi-nomadic desert-dwelling peoples to grace the continent. Guests can choose between a Luxury Tent (70 m2 – private bathroom) starting from 4285 N$ or a Family Tent (140 m2 – 2 bedrooms – private deck) starting from 3654 N$. For those who want to explore the wildlife, Okahirongo offers a special 5 nights safari & tour package starting from 3999N$ per day.
